Meredith was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) when she was eleven years old and Postural Orthostatic Tachychardia (POTS) one year later. Both conditions bring many challenges to her life.
Prior to becoming symptomatic with these two illnesses, Meredith was a very athletic young girl. The pain and dislocations forced her to give up things that she loved like swimming, basketball and art classes (her joint pain is even in her fingers). Dizziness and fatigue sometimes make it difficult to hang out with her family and friends doing certain activities - there have been many adjustments!
"My illness is difficult, but it has helped me to grow in many ways. I’ve learned that life isn’t always easy, or fair, and it has taught me compassion for others who have struggles in life. And, I’ve learned that with determination and courage, I can make a difference and I can overcome!"
